I started One of the Boys during the 2025 holiday season after seeing a persistent problem in dementia care. Men with early to moderate dementia can become aggressive or say racist or misogynistic things. Families and care teams need caregivers who are prepared for those behaviors.
Many of these men remember their past clearly. We learn each man's story, interests, and routines, then introduce a male caregiver he can relate to. We want each client to have steady companionship from someone he trusts. This approach has helped some clients use less medication for behavioral symptoms and enjoy a better quality of life.
